BREAKFAST ART!

My current objective related to food consumption is to be aware of my protein and fiber intake, (well...among other things like drinking enough water daily, getting enough fresh vegetables and fruit and the seemingly never-ending list of what-not-to-do's!).
My Yummy Version of Stuffed French Toast to-go!

I usually use Brownberry brand Health Nut bread (my daughter used to say that the more nuts and twigs in it, the better I liked it!) it's high in protein and fiber, low in fat and calories. I place 2 slices in a glass dish they just fit in perfectly--I'll show the dish next time! and pour on 2 servings of carton egg whites--I sometimes separate whole eggs and toss the yolks, or add the entire egg if I'm making these for my daughter, I just don't eat the yolks most of the time. The protein is in the white and all the cholesterol is in the yolks, that's my rationale. Anyway, I sprinkle with cinnamon powder and set aside for a bit.
Then cook in a skillet heated over med-low flame and spread with ff cream cheese! Add fresh fruit or spread if you wish, or even put on a plate and cover with syrup, honey or powdered sugar for a more traditional AND calorie laden meal. I prefer to wrap in wax paper and eat while I drive to work.
Especially because I like to have a bit of my art in each posting, I have included a series of portraits I've added to over the years. They include family, friends and random pictures I felt inspired to duplicate, done in acrylic, watercolor, graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, pastel chalks, ink--some a combination of materials. Enjoy!

  1. "Smiling" is my favorite in this grouping. It's loose, with some intensity in his eyes, the limited pallet is nice with the cool blue against the warm tones. And the angle of his shoulders is dramatic.

  3. I'm still finding my way around here, so not sure if my reply to comments show on others pages? But wanted to say to Chewy: your comment took my breath away! Subject in "smiling" was very dear to me, had suffered a stroke so was weaker on one side and was self-conscious about his teeth and facial droop, so rarely smiled. he allowed me to take 4 pictures on this particular day...he passed away one week later, I miss him dearly.
His grandchildren treasure the photo saying: Umpa is smiling!
    Thank you, Chewy!!

  4. Thank you, Carolyn--I hope this posts on your page, too! In response to your well wishes--I'm doing well! Also wanted to say, I ignored my creative urges for many years because someone I was close too thought it was a waste of: time, energy and money!

I now listen to my inner voice and agree wholeheartedly with you: ART IS a Celebration!! AND we MUST reach out to the world around us with our art souls!! Thank you so much!!

I hope you continue to unleash your creative urges. I can't imagine anyone telling me to stop making art. Art is soul food,
